Spikelets 1-flowered, in pairs; the sessile one fertile; the pedicellate one sterile or male. Outer glume obtuse, 4–5 mm long, hairy. Lemma of the fertile floret with a terminal bent awn 2–3 cm long. Pedicellate spikelets without awns. Inflorescence a panicle with 2–7 spike-like racemose branches digitately arranged and each 3–5 cm long. Pedicels and articles of the rhachis opaque. Tufted perennial up to 70 cm high; nodes usually hairy. Leaves flat; ligule of hairs. Grasslands and open forests on clay soils. Fl. summer. Queensland Blue Grass
