Small, erect shrubs often almost herbaceous. Flowers solitary or few together on axillary or terminal peduncles. Sepals almost obsolete. Corolla blue or purplish rarely pink or white; posterior lobes with auricles which enclose the indusium. Anthers connate. Ovary 1-locular with 1 erect ovule; lips of the indusium glabrous (Fig. 25). Fruit a small nut.
