Small shrubs. Leaves alternate, linear to ovate or elliptic; stipules hardened. Flowers solitary ± crowded at the ends of the branches, surrounded by persistent brown bracts. Sepals 5, persistent. Floral tube ± adnate to the ovary and produced beyond it. Petals 5, hooded around the stamens. Ovary 3-locular. Fruit a capsule enclosed in the persistent floral tube.
