Erect herb up to 75 cm high, thinly downy throughout. Stems prominently ribbed. Leaves alternate, ovoid to obovate, usually with 2 (sometimes more) prominent lobes near the base of the blade, irregularly and sharply toothed throughout, up to 8 cm long and 4 cm wide; petiole c. 1 cm long. Inflorescence terminal, loosely branched. Heads mostly long-stalked, sometimes 2–3 in a cluster. Involucral bracts numerous, narrow, up to 12 mm long, with a few basal bracts. Florets tubular, slightly exceeding the bracts. Corollas orange brownish or red. Cypselas ribbed. Pappus of numerous fine white silky hairs, up to 20 mm long. Sydney district.
