Climbers or scramblers with woody stems. Leaves opposite, simple or compound with 3 leaflets; petioles twining. Flowers often unisexual, in axillary or terminal panicles. Sepals 4, white, petaloid, valvate. Petals absent. Stamens numerous. Carpels numerous; styles plumose, persistent, forming a long appendage on the fruit.
