Erect or lax, perennial herbs c. 60 cm high with short rhizomes. Leaves linear, up to 50 cm long, 18 mm wide. Flowers in panicles. Perianth segments 6, free, white. Stamens 6, free, shorter than the perianth segments. Ovary distinctly 3-angular, 3-locular; style simple. Fruit a 3-angled capsule, truncate, with few (often 1) seeds per loculus. Garden escape into grasslands and Ss. gullies. Introd. from S. Africa. Fl. summer
