Shrubs. Leaves entire, alternate. Heads small, numerous, in terminal corymbs or panicles. Involucre narrow-ovoid to cylindrical; bracts imbricate, in several rows, scarious or coloured, inner bracts with connivent tips. Receptacle with chaffy scales between the florets only 1–3 fewer than florets or; when florets 3 or less per receptacle then scales absent. Florets all tubular, few, bisexual. Cypselas angular or nearly terete, usually papillose. Pappus of several simple entire or minutely denticulate capillary hairs in a single row and slightly connate into a ring at the base.
