Twining or prostrate, perennial herbs. Leaves hastate or reniform, entire or irregularly toothed. Flowers solitary or in pairs. Bracteoles ovate to oblong, close to and enclosing the calyx. Corolla campanulate, 5-toothed. Ovary 1–2-locular; style filiform, 2-fid. Fruit a capsule, usually 1-locular or incompletely 2-locular.
