Erect, harshly hairy annual, mostly c. 30 cm high, ± hoary, with appressed hairs. Leaves narrow-lanceolate, 2–3 cm long. Flowers small, in the upper axils. Calyx deeply 5-cleft; lobes linear, 5 mm long increasing to 10 mm long in fruiting stage. Corolla white, with a cylindrical tube; throat not closed with scales; lobes spreading. Articles 4, erect, wrinkled. Widespread. Weed of cultivation and waste places. Introd. from Europe. Fl. spring. Corn Gromwell
