*Barbarea verna (Mill.) Asch.

Biennial herb up to 50 cm high with a yellow tap-root and an erect, usually branching stem. Lower leaves pinnatisect, with 6–10 pairs of lateral lobes and a terminal one. Flowers 7–10 mm diam. Petals yellow. Racemes loose at fruiting stage. Fruits terete or bluntly 4-angled, 4–6 cm long, 2 mm diam., on short thick pedicels (Fig. 40 c). Leaves sometimes used for salads. Apparently a garden escape. Introd. from W. Europe. Early Wintercress
