Small shrubs. Leaves sessile or nearly so. Flowers axillary, solitary, on very short pedicels or almost sessile, surrounded by several bracts of which the inner ones are enlarged and embrace the calyx. Corolla tube elongated; the lobes straight or spreading at the top only. Filaments short, usually flattened, inserted in the throat. Ovary 5-locular; style filiform, as long as or longer than the corolla tube. Fruit drupaceous.
