Tall shrub to 10 m high. Bark flaky, Stems with gland tipped hairs. Leaves alternate, ovate 3–9 cm long, 1.5–3.5 cm wide, dark green, thick, margins usually serrate. Inflorescence a raceme or panicle 2–9 cm long. Corolla 8–10 cm long, white or pink, lobes rounded and strongly recurved. Stamens wooly anthers with a narrow appendage. Fruit a berry, 1.5–2 cm diam., red-orange when mature. Blue Mts Introd. from Europe. Fl. winter
