Erect, perennial herb with corms. Leaves linear, basal and cauline, up to 30 cm long, 3–6 mm wide. Flowers regular, in one-sided spikes with a flexuose rhachis; spathes sub-herbaceous, ovate, entire, c. 5 mm long. Perianth segments blue-purple, connate into a narrow tube c. 15 mm long; lobes lanceolate to narrow-oblong, c. 7 mm long. Stylar branches 2-fid, filiform. Capsule subglobular. Frenchs Forest; Avalon. Garden escape in waste ground near habitation. Introd. from S. Africa. Fl. summer
