Involucral bracts more than 2. Spikelets in a terminal head, 1-flowered. 3–4 lowest glumes empty. Perianth bristles longer than the nut. Nut 3-ribbed, rugose, brown or grey. Culms up to 40 cm high. Widespread. Sandy soils. Heath and DSF Schoenus turbinatus
