Weak, ascending pubescent annual herb. Lower leaves petiolate; upper leaves sessile, orbicular-reniform, crenately lobed, 1–2 cm long, subtending and embracing the whorls of flowers. Calyx villous, 5 mm long; teeth 5 almost equal, subulate. Corolla purplish; tube long, narrow. Widespread. Weed of cultivation and waste places. Introd. from Europe and Asia. Fl. winter–spring. Trailing perennial herb, rooting from lower nodes. Leaves petiolate, broadly ovate 2–7 cm long, variegated, margins crenate, base truncate to cuneate. Calyx sparsely hairy, 7–10 mm long.
