Outer cypselas without a beak. Leaves up to 15 cm long, toothed, sinuate to pinnatifid, glabrous or scabrous. Heads, up to 10 mm diam. Cypselas 3–4 mm long; inner ones with a beak c. 7 mm long. Pappus hairs 8–10 mm long. Widespread. Weed of cultivation, pastures and waste places. Annual herb. Introd. from Europe; Asia and Africa. Fl. summer. Smooth Catsear Hypochaeris glabra
