Rather stout, erect perennial 30–90 cm high, with creeping rhizomes. Leaves elliptic or oblong, 1–2 cm long, with numerous translucent oil dots. Flowers rather numerous, c. 2 cm diam., in a broad terminal leafy panicle. Petals twice as long as the sepals, with black dots along the margin. Stamens 50–100, in 3 bundles.
