Annual herb. Flowers solitary, on axillary pedicels. Leaves deeply 3–5-lobed, 3–8 cm long; the lobes often divided again. Calyx very shortly 5-lobed, membranous, with 20 raised veins, c. 12 mm long at flowering but much larger and inflated at fruiting stage. Petals pale yellow with dark purple bases. Capsule ovoid-globular, hirsute, enclosed in the calyx. Widespread. Garden weed. Probably introd. but origin unknown. Fl. spring–summer. Bladder Ketmia Hibiscus trionum
