Heads almost hidden amongst woolly hairs, with 3–4 subtending leafy bracts, in terminal spikes. Leaves darker and with fewer hairs on the upper surface, oblanceolate to spathulate, with obtuse mucronate tips, 25–80 mm long, 4–18 mm wide. Involucre 3–4 mm diam.; bracts green to straw-coloured.
