Leaves acuminate, broad-ovate to lanceolate, 1–7 cm long. Flowers few together in short pedunculate heads which are terminal but becoming lateral by the growth of the shoot. Corolla 6 mm long. Leaves obtuse truncate or emarginate, broad-oblong to broad-ovate, 2–8 cm long. Domatia prominant on lower surface. Flowers numerous in compound axillary clusters. Corolla 5 mm long. Fruit orange-red. Shrub up to 8 m high but sometimes prostrate, pubescent on the young branches. Naturalized at places near the sea. Introd. from New Zealand. Fl. spring–summer.
