Lemma truncate at the summit. Glabrous perennial up to 50 cm high. Leaf blades folded or flat, 2–4 mm wide. Spikes 6–9, each 5–14 cm long. Glumes 2–3 mm long, hyaline. Lemmas c. 3 mm long, dark brown to black; awns 8–15 mm long. Widespread. Usually in grasslands on heavy soils. Fl. summer. Windmill Grass Chloris truncata
