Erect or ascending, perennial herb 4–30 cm high. Leaves basal and cauline, variously hairy; lower leaves obovate to oblong, contracted into a long petiole, bluntly and distantly toothed, 4–12 cm long, passing gradually into small sessile entire upper floral leaves. Flowers in false whorls of 6–20. Calyx 5-toothed, 4–7 mm long. Corolla blue or purple, variable in size up to 20 mm long; lower lip long and spreading, 3-lobed, the middle lobe larger and emarginate. Procumbent perennial herb. Leaves glabrescent, 1.5–5 cm long, 0.7–3 cm wide, braod-elliptic to oblong, margins undulate or crenate. Petiole 1–2 cm, long winged. Flowering stem densely hairy on 2 sides. Floral bracts similar to leaves but sessile and tinged with blue. Flowers are in whorls of c. 6. Calyx 4–5 mm long, purplish, acute with long white hairs. Corolla 13–17 mm long, blue with darker veins, the tube is longer than the calyx. The upper lip of the corolla is emarginate. Filaments are blue and glandular. Upper Blue Mts .
